    Use your favorite Perler Beads ’n Rods mix to create these colorful kites with graceful tails. Using the combination of beads and rods makes the project go extra fast, and you can even curve the kite to look more dimensional.

1. Download the Breezy Day Project Pattern. This design uses a colorful combination of beads and rods. When using beads and rods together in a design, both are placed BETWEEN the pegs. Place your beads and rods on the pegboard as shown. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it.

2. Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Beads ’n Rods projects are ironed ON ONE SIDE ONLY so the rods stay rounded on the front. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. Press the iron gently for 5-10 seconds, then begin to iron In a circular motion. As the beads begin to fuse, you will see circles of the beads start to show through the paper. When ironed properly, the beads will still have an open center. Let the design cool completely.

NOTE: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Depending on the size of the project, additional heating time may be required.

3. ASSEMBLY: Thread the needle with 12" of matching thread. Insert the needle through the bottom bead, even up the ends, and tie a square knot.

With one of the tails still threaded in the needle, follow the pattern in the photo to string rods onto the tail. Finish with a single bead. Bring the thread again through the single bead and secure with a knot. Repeat for the other kite tails.
