  • Vacation Fun Card

    Designed By Corrine Mihlek-Bryzs

Make a splash with this beach themed card. This vacation fun card is supposed to be messy and give a great “splotchy” effect, kind of like ocean spray! The watercolor/salt technique can have varying results, so just have fun with it!

  1. Use white cardstock to make a side-folding card. Cut the light blue green cardstock to match the card front and adhere.
  2. Cut a piece of lime cardstock 1/4” smaller all around than the card front. Lightly sand the edges and adhere to the card front, centering it.
  3. Spritz water onto a piece of watercolor paper. Apply a wash of blue watercolor paint with a fan brush. Play with the colors, making some areas darker than others.
  4. While still wet, sprinkle kosher or coarse salt over the watercolor paper. Let it dry, or speed up the process with a heating tool placed at a distance from the paper (you don’t want to blow the salt off the paper before it absorbs some paint.) Once dry, brush the salt off completely. Select a section and cut it slightly smaller than the lime piece.
  5. Using indigo ink and both shades of blue chalk ink, stamp various shells along the left side of the dried watercolor paper, going off the edges. Heat set the chalk inks, then adhere this piece to the card front.
  6. With indigo ink, stamp the large conch shell onto the green print paper, then cut it out closely with your scissors.
  7. Adhere the shell image to the bottom right portion of the card front, as shown, and using 3-D Dots only on the top half; adhere the bottom of the shell directly to the card front.
  8. Create a beachy-fun sentiment by stamping words on the top right of the card front. Use different ink shades for each word, and pick a couple words to highlight by stamping them onto white cardstock and matting them with lime green cardstock. Finished Size: 5” x 7”
